Celebrating 16 Years of BDB Law.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for BDB Law’s 16th Anniversary tax forum, "Tax Policy and Compliance in a Changing Economy: Regulatory Directions and Legal Reforms"
We kicked off the event with a timely discussion on the taxation of the digital economy in the Philippines.
We give special thanks to our speaker and panelists: Atty. Jomel N. Manaig, Partner at BDB Law; Dir. Euvimil Nina R. Asuncion of the DOF’s Revenue Operations Group; BIR Deputy Commissioner Larry Barcelo; Mr. Jack Madrid, President of the IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines; and Mr. Donald Lim, President of the Blockchain Council of the Philippines.
The session discussed the new Digital Services Tax Law, which imposes a 12% VAT on digital services consumed in the Philippines, including those from foreign providers and they noted that non-resident providers can register through a simplified process, and the tax applies only to services consumed within the Philippines. Industry representatives highlighted the need for consistent regulation, ease of compliance, and smarter tax policies to support startups and digital growth, especially as the country remains a major consumer but faces challenges in scaling its tech sector.
